To strengthen the friendly relations among the four countries of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand in general, and the "great" relationship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in particular, through external relations activities on the occasion of Bunpimay; and to promote the development of the East-West Economic Corridor and the CLV Development Triangle, and to implement economic diplomacy in 2024 in Southern Laos, on April 10, 2024, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Pakse, in coordination with the Champasak provincial government, organized the "Trade, Investment, and Tourism Cooperation Forum Promoting the East-West Economic Corridor and CLV Development Triangle." The Binh Phuoc provincial delegation, led by Ms. Huynh Thi Hang - Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council, attended the Forum. As we know, the four southern provinces of Laos in general, and Champasak province in particular, are located in the center of the East-West Economic Corridor, from Myanmar through the northeastern provinces of Thailand, to the southern provinces of Laos, to the central provinces of Vietnam, and out to the East Sea; this is also the center of the development triangle of the three countries of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, abbreviated as CLV.
The East-West Economic Corridor is a program initiated in 1998 with the objectives of: strengthening economic cooperation, promoting trade, investment, and development among member countries; reducing transportation costs, promoting the transport of goods, and supporting the development of localities along the East-West Economic Corridor.
The CLV Development Triangle area among Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam was established in 1999 to implement cooperation programs of the three countries in the border area in many fields such as transportation, telecommunications, energy, investment, trade, agriculture, tourism, health, culture, and education, thereby contributing to socio-economic development, poverty reduction, and enhanced connectivity within the CLV Development Triangle Area. 2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the CLV Development Triangle Area, an important milestone in the regional cooperation process.
Over time, the four countries of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand have coordinated to implement many joint cooperation programs to promote the development of the East-West Economic Corridor and the CLV Development Triangle Area. At the same time, in recent years, the Party, State, and Government of Vietnam have always attached importance to the role of the East-West Economic Corridor and the CLV Development Triangle Area, prioritizing resource allocation to promote the implementation of cooperation contents. Vietnamese localities have also actively invested in transport infrastructure, seaports, logistics, investment promotion, trade, and tourism with localities in the three countries of Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand, realizing the East-West Economic Corridor and the CLV Development Triangle. This program is considered the largest and most effective to date in the area. At the forum this morning, local leaders of the four countries will present information and promote the potential and strengths of cooperation in promoting trade, investment, and tourism so that agencies and businesses from each side can study and develop plans to implement cooperation contents suitable to the needs and strengths of each locality.
